Municipal Monument.
In 1598 the first Protestant sermon was preached in Zeddam under the direction of reverend Caspar Sollingius, also pastor in 's-Heerenberg. Not in the Oswaldus church, because that was a ruin, but under a large lime tree. Only after 1604 were activities undertaken to restore the medieval church. In 1810, on the authority of King Louis Bonaparte, when the ecclesiastical property was divided, the church passed back into the hands of the Catholic Saint Oswaldusparochie.Na having been forced to church in the old barn church of the Catholic parish and in a barn of Jan Tervoert a new church could be consecrated for Protestant worship on 8 November 1811 by Reverend Warnsinck. Cost: HFL 5020,-. The church will be located in the garden of the old rectory. The war damage suffered during the Second World War was repaired in 1945 and the interior was refurbished in 1953. A dilemma ensues in 1964. Is the church being restored or is new being built? The choice fell on restoration in 1967. The brown benches were also replaced by old Dutch button chairs. At a later stage, an elevated liturgical centre was installed in front of the church and in 1988 five small stained glass windows were installed, made by Mr Coolen. In 2005, two stained glass windows were installed on either side of the pulpit, designed by Willem Ormel. The design is based on Genesis 2:8-25 and deals with paradise and on Revelation 21:9-22 which describes the new Jerusalem. The designs have been given the title The Journey. In 2005 the interior of the church was refurbished. The painting above the pulpit revealed a decoration that had been hidden for years under a layer of white paint. A performance from Leviticus 16. In it, Aaron is shown how to enter the sanctuary within the veil. "With a young bull as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering". The performance has been reinstated.
