The Deer or 't Hert is a windmill built in 1899 in place of the burnt-down wooden octagon. The wooden octagon originates from the Zaan region but is now located in Putten. The name refers to the municipal coat of arms on the mill, in which a deer appears. The mill is a flour mill of the scaffolding mill type with a stone substructure and a wooden, thatched superstructure. The mill has three rack doors. There are still two pairs of grinding stones present. Both grinding pairs are capable of grinding and can be used as needed. One milling flock is used for grinding for consumption and the other for animal feed. Both coupling stones are made of artificial stone, of which the one for grinding for consumption is made of flint stone. An artificial stone has a special, hard layer on the grinding side, of which the grooves (rash) are made of a slightly softer material than the notches, so that the stone sharpens itself. The torque for consumption is equipped with a regulator, which makes grinding more even.
