Stavenisse, safe haven At the head of the port of Stavenisse stands the former town hall, which was built in 1860 on the site of a guardhouse from the 80-year war. During the flood disaster of 1 February 1953, hundreds of people found a safe refuge here. In the Voorstraat with its lime trees, the 17th, 18th and 19th century facades form a beautiful whole. In the Dutch Reformed Church you can see a marble tomb made by Rombout Verhulst of the craftsman Hieronymus van Tuyll van Serooskerken, who died in 1669. After his death, his widow had the current church tower built.
