Weddermarke

The Weddermarke is a polder mill near the recreation area of Wedderbergen, near the village of Wedde in the province of Groningen.
The original mill of the Weddermarke water board was built in 1875. This mill burned down in 1898 and was replaced by the current mill. As early as 1910, the function of the mill was replaced by a pumping system with steam drives and in 1955 by a pumping system with diesel drive. Currently, the area is drained by means of an electrical installation, which is located about one and a half kilometers from the mill. The mill is therefore no longer operational as a polder mill. The mill was extensively restored in 1987, from that time on the sails can turn again. The mill used to be equipped with self-pivoting but now has the old Dutch wick system with sails on the rods, which have a radius of 20.60 meters. The mill is owned by the Hunze en Aa's water board. The mill runs regularly, despite a strong wind obstruction from the trees of the recreaction area, thanks to a volunteer miller. In 2007 a swirl beam was installed, so that the mill can also run without an auger. Especially in the directions where there are many trees, the mill can now run sparingly.
