Huis ten Bosch is the oldest country estate on the Vecht, built in 1628 by architect Jacob van Kampen. Before that, it was a revolutionary modern building. It seems as if Van Kampen practiced here for his later masterpiece: the palace on Dam Square, which he would build 20 years later. Both buildings are very similar. Just past Huis Ten Bosch is the cozy terrace on the water of restaurant De Vrienden van de Vecht, where the boat can be moored next to the terrace.
