In 1728 the Arsenal was expanded with an extra floor and on the northeast side a new wing, the Klein Arsenaal. It was used as a storehouse for military equipment, especially weapons and ammunition. During the First World War it was used as accommodation for the infantry of the fortress and the hospital soldiers of the nearby military hospital. After the war it came back into use as an armory and for the storage of ammunition. From 1950 it became a depot for military maps.
