When you look at the farm at Oud Avereest 1, you see a user garden, a tree of life above the front door, a bakehouse and a farmer's wife who is 'under the pans'. The big difference with the other farms in Oud Avereest? This farmhouse has an ornamental façade.
Some farms have a small stone shed, a so-called bakehouse. When firewood was needed to light the oven in such a bakehouse (for baking bread and cakes, among other things), well, the farmer had to cut down a (beech) tree and then dry the wood. After drying, the wood could be put in the baking oven. Baking bread used to be a woman's job, which is why the bakehouses were often next to the living area. Usually only the opening of the oven is located in the bakehouse, the baking oven itself was outside.
