The Lemelerberg (the Archemerberg is also part of it) is a nature reserve managed by Landschap Overijssel and is located north of National Park De Sallandse Heuvelrug. It is an ice age landscape, because both mountains form a kind of fingerprints of the penultimate ice age, about 150,000 years ago. Like a "giant finger" slowly sliding over the earth, huge glaciers pushed aside layers of soil and shoved masses of earth into large heaps. When the ice began to melt, the hills were left behind. The almost 80 meter high Archemerberg is now a great viewpoint.
