More than 8,000 American soldiers are buried in the only American cemetery in the Netherlands and 1722 missing people are commemorated on the Walls of the Missing. The majority were killed during the liberation of the south-east of the Netherlands in World War II and the advance through Germany.
Far into the perimeter, the cemetery is visible through a thirty-meter-high tower. The territory of the cemetery has been made available to the Government of the United States of America for perpetual use.
The management of the Margraten American Cemetery rests with the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). For more information about the organization and the American cemetery, the organization would like to refer you to the website.
