With the arrival of the train in 1843, the Vecht lost its most important transport function. The Spoorlaan led from De Nederlanden to the station. Due to the construction of the Merwede Canal (after widening the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal) in 1892 on the east side of the railway line, the stations along the Utrecht-Amsterdam route were located across the water. So it became a lot more difficult for the residents to reach the station. In Vreeland, passengers were transferred by boat until a bridge over the canal was built in 1939 as part of the N201. Bridges were also built in Abcoude and Breukelen.
Just like Vreeland station, Loenen-Nieuwersluis was also demolished in 1953. Only the street names Spoorlaan in Vreeland and Stationsweg in Nieuwersluis still remind us of the former presence of the stations.
