Under the bushes along the ditch is a dugout canoe from 600 BC. Proof that the Vecht was already an important transport route at that time! The canoe was found digging the ditch in 1987. Here ran a precursor of the Vecht, which later became bogged down. In this 'early Iron Age', several finds and residences are already known along the Vecht. The river was the fastest route in the wet landscape with hardly any roads over land. With a dugout canoe you could easily sail from one settlement to another. The boat was 8.5 m. long and 1 m. wide. A large oak tree has been cut down, split and hollowed out for this purpose. After the excavation, the boat is again covered with plastic and soil. You can read more on the information board at the site of the excavation.
