Willibrordus Chapel

Source: Manwan

Description

There used to be a Willibrordus well on this spot. The water was believed to have medicinal properties.
It was a well-known place of pilgrimage. However, when a toddler almost drowned in 1870, the well was filled in. Remains were later recovered. This chapel was built above the well in 1939 according to a design by the architect Bedaux.
The building was badly damaged by the violence of war, but was later renovated in its current form.
You won't find pilgrims there anymore, but the building and its surroundings are still maintained by volunteers.
