The observatory on the Brunssummerheide was opened in December 1986 by astronaut Wubbo Ockels and has since had various names such as: (people's) observatory 'Hercules' or later the Limburg Public Observatory. After this, the observatory was operated as a science center (eXplorion). In mid-2012, eXplorion ceased its activities. The Limburg Observatory Foundation has taken over the building to set up the exhibition and presentation itself. The antique lens scope has also been taken over and restored.
