Protected city and village view Treebeek

Brunssum has one of the largest protected city and village views in the Netherlands. The old mining colonies (neighborhoods), the Schutterspark and the Vijverpark are part of this. A beautiful example can be seen in Treebeek. The old colony has been completely refurbished. Both the old miners' houses and the public space have been restored. The Treebeekplein - once designed in a park-like atmosphere - has slowly crumbled over the years.

Originally, the Treebeekplein had a deepened location in relation to the houses. In the 70s of the last century, these houses were demolished and apartments were built in their place. These turned out not to be 'time-resistant' and were still difficult to rent out after two decades. That is why the housing corporation (Wonen Zuid) together with the municipality of Brunssum is restoring the square to its former glory, so that it fits seamlessly with the protected city and village view of Treebeek.
