In 1827, Roman remains were found during excavations. In the 80's of the 20th century, the remains of a Roman villa from the 2nd century were discovered east of Hoogeloon as part of an agricultural settlement. Also a corresponding Roman burial ground, a burial mound, known as the Kabouterberg, and a fragment of a Roman road were found or investigated. The villa is the only one that is known from the Brabant sandstone grounds.
