Around the city centre of Vianen you can still see large parts of the medieval defences: the city moat, the city walls and the Lekpoort. The Lekpoort is the only gate that has been preserved after parts of the city wall and gates were demolished in the 19th century because they were considered an obstacle to the increasing traffic.
The Lekpoort dates from the 15th century. The tower originally housed a prison.
