As with other heathlands in the Gooi, grazing by cattle is necessary for the preservation of heath vegetation. They also provide more variety and a greater diversity of species in the forest area than in a planted forest. In this area the hazel worm is regularly spotted (not a worm but a long lizard without legs). Also noteworthy is the large number of anthills of the red forest ant.
Badgers also walk in this forest area, although they do not show themselves. Their castles are located in the forest on the south side of the nearby Noodweg. Special tunnels allow them to safely pass the road. Similar passages have been made in other places as well. Partly because of this, the badger population around Hollandsche Rading has been doing well in recent years
