The Laapersbos has become a forest with remnants of heathland. The forest is densely overgrown with flies and various types of hardwood. There are still some old beech avenues and remnants of oak coppice forest to be found and there are pieces of oak sparrow forest. It is a bird-rich area with, among other things, the black woodpecker. The old beech trees are home to many burrow-nesting birds and bats. The badger also regularly visits this area. Grazers ensure that the area retains its diversity.
Just like the Laapersheide, the Laapersbos is an important green link in the nature reserves south of Hilversum. Here, too, the badger is a regular visitor.
Dogs are allowed on a leash during the breeding season (15 March – 15 July).
