Tricht (dialect: Trig) is a village in the municipality of West Betuwe and is located on the river Linge. On 1 January 2021, Tricht had 2,145 inhabitants.
The oldest mention is Thrinniti and comes from a gift letter of 850. In 1129 Tricht was mentioned in the foundation of the abbey of Mariënwaerdt. Several name variants are known: Treth (1108), Treiecti (1148) and Trecht (1267). All are said to come from the Latin word traiectus, which indicates the presence of a transition or spring.
The village is intersected by the railway line Utrecht - Den Bosch and Dordrecht - Arnhem. In particular, the prominent proximity of the railway is not very happy to the inhabitants. But they are used to it and the immediate vicinity of the Geldermalsen railway station is actually quite convenient.
Tricht is a lively village with many volunteers who are committed to numerous associations and institutions. The Dorpshuis Tricht often functions as a decentralized meeting place.
