Miljoenenlijn bus stop at Eys Station

Eys-Wittem is a railway station in Eys, now a station of the Miljoenenlijn. The station is located on the railway line from Simpelveld to Schin op Geul and is located on the road from Eys to Wittem near the hamlet of Eyserhalte, which refers to this station.
On 6 May 1900 the station was opened under the name Eijs-Wittem, the station building had been present since 1880. The station was expensive to operate and was therefore closed on 15 May 1938.
The station building still exists. Until the end of the operation of the railway, extra trains stopped at Eijs-Wittem station several times a year. These were pilgrimage trains with pilgrims on their way to the monastery in Wittem.
In 1995 the railway was revived. The Miljoenenlijn runs steam trains between Simpelveld and Schin op Geul and between Simpelveld and Kerkrade.
The station in Eys, which is now owned by private individuals, has since been reopened under the new name of Eys-Wittem station. The operation of Eys-Wittem station is limited to the operating days of the Miljoenenlijn.
