Museum Huis van Hilde

Huis van Hilde is an archaeological museum, located on the Westerplein within walking distance of the railway station of Castricum.

The museum has permanent and changing exhibitions. 'Discover the archaeology of North Holland' is a permanent exhibition, it is an exciting voyage of discovery through the archaeology of North Holland. In the heart of Huis van Hilde there is an impressive exhibition about the archaeology and settlement history of North Holland. In this exhibition, you literally come face to face with people from the past. There are figures from different periods such as; Hilde from Castricum, Cees the Stone Age man, the Alkmaar woman Brecht, Willem and Hillegonda van Brederode and nine others.

There are also more than 1000 archaeological finds visible. From Prehistoric Times to Modern Times. These include weapons, tools, jewelry, cooking and eating utensils.

There are also films and multimedia presentations that portray the landscape, time periods and excavations. Most of the films are subtitled in Dutch, English and German.

And children can go on a voyage of discovery in the ArcheoLab. Get hands-on with real archaeological artifacts. Take on the role of an archaeologist and learn how to become a real sleuth.

Of course you can also visit the museum café Hildes Heerlykhyd for a nice sandwich and a cup of coffee. You can also visit the café without visiting the museum.
