Viewpoint over the house fens in the Kampina.
The Kampina is a nature reserve with forest, heathland and stream valleys in the province of North Brabant, located between Boxtel and Oisterwijk. The area has been largely owned by the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten since 1929 and is more than 1200 hectares in size. The name refers (in Latin) to the Kempen.
The Kampina is a varied nature reserve with a vast heath, pine forests and many fens. Centrally located is the large Kampinase Heide which is adorned by numerous fens such as the Belversven; more sheltered, in the northeast corner of the area, are the Huisvennen and the Zandbergsvennen, which are particularly rich in dragonfly species. Over the heath the call of the curlew sounds. The heath is here and there peaty and has special species such as lavender heath.
