Near Château St. Gerlach, on the edge of the Ingendael nature reserve, there is a marlstone well house from the early eighteenth century. The well and the spring are named after Saint Gerlachus.
The well is much older than the well house. Gerlachus himself is said to have drunk from a well in the thirteenth century, but it is impossible to say whether it is the same.
This spring water and the consecrated Gerlachus sand were considered beneficial for centuries and the well played an important role in the pilgrimage to Saint Gerlach.
