With the Archeo Route Limburg you will discover the stories behind Limburg's history and archaeology. The most important places of this route are marked with a work of art in the shape of a spear.
Long before Kerkrade became Kerkrade, people from the era of the Romans gathered here, at the junction where the road from Bavay to Cologne (Via Belgica) and the road from Xanten to Trier (Via Traiana) crossed.
With Coriovallum just five kilometres away, this area was a lively place full of villas. The remains of these villa complexes can still be seen in Kerkrade, with Villa Holzkuil as a shining example.
At this unique location, you can look back almost two thousand years in time. The villa existed from the end of the first century to the end of the third century.
Location: Go to the wide pedestrian and bicycle path opposite Eygelshovergracht 51 in Kerkrade (Eygelshoven). After about 250 meters you will find the Archeo Route site on the left.
