The Karregat is a nature reserve of 43 hectares located west of Nuland and adjacent to the Nulandse Heide. The Karregat is owned by the Brabant Landscape Foundation. It is located on both sides of the Tilburg - Nijmegen railway line.
The area forms the northern spur of a sand ridge that is up to 4 meters higher than the surrounding landscape that borders the river clay landscape of the Meuse. In 1880 a pond was dug here for the construction of the railway line from 's-Hertogenbosch to Nijmegen. This lake was located in the middle of a drifting sand area and was only fed by rainwater. This resulted in a vegetation that could be compared to that of a fen. Swamp dewclaw and Round sundew grow there today. The Water Lobelia, last found in 1965, came back after sodging and grew in large numbers in 2006.
