The Amerongse Berg is the highest point on the lateral moraine Utrechtse Heuvelrug (69.2 meters above sea level) and is located northeast of Amerongen. The Heuvelrug was created about 150,000 years ago in the penultimate ice age, the Saalian period.
At the top of the Amerongse Berg, in one of the oldest forests on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, there is a square column on a concrete base with information about flora and fauna, among other things. The inscription "RD" stands for 'National Triangulation' and was used by the government when measuring the landscape.
There are many burial mounds in this area. More than 400 meters southeast of the summit is the Lonely Oak.
