City walk Willemstad | Zuiderwaterlinie

Willemstad is one of the eleven fortified cities of the Zuiderwaterlinie. The fortified city is shaped like a seven-pointed star and is surrounded by five forts, the most impressive of which is Fort Sabina. Over the centuries, the strategically located Defence Line of Willemstad was an excellent place to control shipping between Holland, Zeeland and Antwerp. Stroll past the Volkerak and the beautiful Swan Lake, the monumental Mauritshuis, the Holy Virgin Mary's Church and then past the Koepelkerk. Finally, you walk outside the ramparts on the canal, so you get a different view of the ramparts.
