Gang of the White Feather cycle route | Sagas & Legends

North Brabant around 1720. The population has been under the yoke of Spanish and French occupying armies for years. Survival is all that matters. A group of 'heydens', 'landtloopers' and deserters forms an unhinged gang and turns out to be the terror of the region. Farms and manors are not safe from their raids. They sell stolen goods and livestock to healers from the area, in exchange for clothing, food and weapons. Deep in the impenetrable area between Loon op Zand and 's-Gravenmoer, which at the time was close to the border with Holland, the gang hid in an encampment. The most notorious and cunning of them all is gang leader Swarte Johannes. No one knows what he really looks like, because Swarte Johannes is a master of disguises. Only the white feather on his hat is a sign that he is a member of the White Feather Gang. This cycle route over the 43-kilometre junctions leads you along the exciting story.

Poverty prevailed in North Brabant around the year 1720. Survival is all that matters. A gang is formed, led by Swarte Johannes, that frightens everyone. The Gang of the White Feather plunders in disguise and manages to rob many citizens. A manhunt ensues, but will this gang be caught? Who knows, maybe a white feather will give them away.
