Around Wilhelminadorp in Zeeland

Meet at the carpool parking (V) at the intersection of the Deltaweg with the Langeweg in Wilhelminadorp. This is also junction 60 of the Zeeland – Zuid-Beveland and Tholen cycle junction system. At the traffic lights, cross the intersection and cycle towards 48, on the wide cycle path with two-way traffic on the left side of the traffic road, towards Wilhelminadorp. You cycle through the Wilhelminapolder and do not care about side roads until you can turn left in a bend, towards Kattendijke and Wilhelminadorp. Cycle through the village to the Havenkanaal and cross the seesaw bridge / drawbridge and follow the Oosthavendijk to the left. At the Kooiweg you make a right-left nod and follow the Havenkanaal below dikes to the Goesse Sas. Here the Port Canal flows into the Oosterschelde. Cycle along Topsy Baits 1 up the dike and follow it along the Oosterschelde to Kattendijke. Climb there to the Oude Zeedijk with junction 48. Nodes rarely signposted Please note! In the Netherlands, the system of bicycle junctions is known, but the junctions themselves are rarely indicated. On a board you can choose which node you are going to follow. Choose junction 56 and cycle along the wide cycle path on the dike along the Oosterschelde. You pass a parking lot on the side of the Oosterschelde and another along the land side, with information board about the Oosterschelde National Park. When the path stops, you are in Wemeldinge according to an information board. Cross the Steldijk and follow the Binnendijk to the right, around Wemeldinge. On the other side of the Oosterschelde lies Tholen. You cycle past the marina and see two old cannons and the Mermaid by artist Leon Vermunt at the entrance. To the right of marina 2 are the Hoop (1866) and the Aeolus (1869), two white windmills. Past the port you cycle to an intersection without signage. You have to turn left, continue over the Oostelijke Kanaaldijk and past the catering business Bom Dia. Then turn right and cycle past Camping Linda to a T. Turn right and a little further with a hairpin bend left onto the dike. Before you, the canal flows through Zuid-Beveland into the Oosterschelde. Make a hairpin turn to the right and cycle away from the Oosterschelde. Follow the dike along an industrial zone, cycle around a dead-end arm of the canal and continue along the canal through ZuidBeveland, towards Hansweert. Where you can leave the dike, just before the bridge of the Postweg (N670, to Yerseke), you will arrive at junction 56. Bridges open Keep cycling straight ahead, towards 84. Pass under the bridge and on until you pass under the railway bridge and the bridge of the Rijksweg (N289). With some luck you will see a spectacle here. On the other side of the canal, the two bridges open when sailboats with high masts have to pass through. Ordinary ship traffic sails in the middle of the canal, without having to raise bridges. On the other side of the bridges you follow the Noordeweg to the Kanaalweg. Cross it and follow the separate cycle path to the left. Cross the bridge over the highway and don't care about side roads. Leave Schore on the right and cycle straight ahead at a roundabout. Then take the Schoolstraat on the left and at the end, at the Spar, turn right. Follow the Westhavendijk to the end, with junction 84. Here you get to see the Westerschelde for the only time during this tour. Turn right, direction 83, continue past Hansweert and at the roundabout continue straight on the Zeedijk. You cycle down the dike, past two wind turbines and an orchard and you don't care about side roads until you come to an intersection with the bridge over the highway right in front of you. Here is junction 83 and you cycle left, direction 70, just along the highway and then left onto the 's Gravenpolderse Oudedijk. On the right orchards, on the left fields and a gigantic complex of greenhouses. Below the dike are some farms and at the junction with a lonely tree is junction 70. Turn left here and follow the Hooiweg, direction junction 71, which you reach 500 m further. Turn right and follow langedijk to the right, direction 78. Just like the Hooiweg, the Langdijk is also an inner dike and you can enjoy the landscape 'from above'. Along the way you will pass an information board about edge management for field birds. Ignore the Korenpolderdijk on the right and continue cycling along the Weeldijk. On the left are the Zwake and the 's Gravenpolderse Weel. In the distance beckons the windmill of 's Gravenpolder, the Korenhalm (1876). You cycle past the cemetery below the dike into the village and follow the Haagdijk to the left until you reach the T. You are then at junction 78 and cycle right, direction 77. At the intersection near the church you have to look carefully at the sign with junction 77. Turn left, direction 76. You cycle past the Kerkhoeve and then turn right into the Polderweg to 's Heer Abtskerke. Cross the bridge over the N666, cross the railway and then take the Bergweg on the left. On the corner is junction 76. Continue cycling towards 92, past orchards and the nature reserve de Poel. On the T, follow the Palmboomseweg to the right. Cross a wide ditch and on the next T follow the Zuidweg to the left. On the right you see windmill De Poel (1752) and the church of Nisse. Continue cycling between orchards and fields, cross a priority road and drive past cheese farm Ter Nisse (cheese and local products). At the fork, keep right and continue to follow the Zuidweg, past the entrance gate of the former Slot der Nisse to the Protestant Maria church of Nisse. Turn behind the church and cycle past the beautiful village square with kiosk, village pump and drinking pool for animals. At the end of the square is Bakkerij-Theetuin Jikkemiene, a picturesque shop where you can also use something. This is node 92. Cycle right and at the end of the square turn left, direction 69. Follow the Gerbernesseweg to the intersection with the Drieweg. Do not cross it, but follow the cycle path with two-way traffic to the left, parallel to the busy road. At the first intersection you cross the Drieweg and continue cycling through the Thijshoekseweg. Then take the first road on the left, also Thijshoekseweg. After nature reserve De Poel you cycle on the T right and continue to follow the nature reserve. It continues winding and on the T you cycle left and follow the Noordhoekweg to the first road on the right. Here you are at junction 69 and cycle across the highway, direction 68. You cycle along the Poelbos and at the junction with the Verbartelweg you come to junction 68. Continue straight ahead on Sinoutskerkseweg towards 61. Cross the railway and you will arrive at junction 61. Choose direction 60 and follow the Oude Rijksweg through the center of 's-Heer Hendrikskinderen to the Nieuwe Rijksweg (N664). Cross it carefully and make a right-left nod on the other side and continue cycling through the Nieuweweg, between the fields and around pony club Het Hummeltje. Then you cycle up an inner dike and you arrive at the Deltaweg. Now follow the cycle path with two-way traffic to the left until junction 60, at the car park.
