4. Nieuwmoer - Zundert / Gilbert van Schoonbekepad

Leg 4: Nieuwmoer – Zundert

For this part of the route, put on waterproof shoes. At least for the first hour along the path. At the national border you will get acquainted with the remnants of the large-scale peat extraction at Nieuwmoer: now the cross-border nature reserve de Matjes. On a beautiful path with undulating reeds we arrive at the Turfvaart. From here the peat was transported to Breda in earlier times. We follow a grass path along this peat canal. An unexpected gem is the estate De Oude Buisse Heide with the Buisse Hoeve and the Angorahoeve, the summer residence of the couple Rik and Henriëtte Roland Holst. Musing along with Henriette in her tea dome. Berlage, Charley Toorop and Herman Gorter preceded you at the beginning of the 20th century. The landscape that passes you by here has completely changed compared to the beginning of this stage. Two more estates follow: Wallsteyn and De Moeren. The tour ends at the Market of Zundert, in front of the Van Gogh House and at the church of Vincent's father, who was a pastor in Zundert.
