UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Woudagemaal, centuries-old but still active

Wetter, the Frisian word for water, is ubiquitous on this route. You cycle along various waterways and famous Frisian lakes with breathtaking views. Along the way you will see beautiful farmlands and beautiful nature. Stop at the oldest working steam pumping station in the world, the Woudagemaal. It was built in 1920 to pump out the excess water from Friesland and still works at high tide. Engineer Wouda designed the handsome building in the Amsterdam School style.
