Streams, lakes, and a river cruise

This route for the experienced hiker starts along the ZLSM railway, the steam train or the former Miljoenenlijn. After the railway, we walk into the Anselerbeek valley and through the Kapellerbosje to the Elisabet Stift to the Anselerhoeve to cross the Dentgenbachbeek to GaiaZoo. Behind the farm Nieuw Erenstein from Limburg Landscape we reach the Cranewyer, which is also known as the only reservoir in the Netherlands.

We limp out of the valley, leave the gate of the Anselerbeek valley in Chèvremont and enjoy the view of Erenstein Castle and the surrounding area on Mont Chèvre. Behind the castle we walk along the Anselerbeek and cross the busy road. Then we follow the course of the Anselerbeek to the parking lot of Kerkrade station and Museumplein.

We now walk through the town of Kerkrade to visit the idyllic and beautifully landscaped Ursuline churchyard and drive via the Hertogpad in the direction of Rolduc to Herzogenrath. We walk past the monumental buildings of the castle and Eurode to the lake area of the Broichbach. We pass only 3 of the many lakes of this stream to get from the valley to the next river of the Wurm. We reach the Wurm above the old garbage dump of the Aachen community and follow it further to the stairs and the bridge over the river. Along the Siegfried Line we leave this river valley to reach the Peschbeemden via Pannesheide at another Anstelbeek. At the end of this stream, the Crombacherbeek arrives and we leave the nature reserve via the Green Valley and walk along the Buitenring over the wooden footbridge to the canal, where we end the tour at the starting point in the parking lot.
