Cycling through the GroeneHart.
From Woerden you cycle over a wood quay in the middle of the meadows towards Castle De Haar. In the village of Haarzuilens the first stop can be held for a coffee-to-go at the "Wapen van Haarzuilens". Via the Haarrijnse plas the route goes over the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and also the Utrechtse Vecht.
From Maarssen the Vecht is followed along the way we see various country estates with tea domes and some centuries-old castles, such as Nijenrode, Oudaen and Gunterstein. Just over the bridge in Breukelen is the village square with restaurants, possibilities for a 2nd stop. At Nieuwersluis we cross the Vecht and a little further with the ferry the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal.
Via Nieuwer te Aa it goes through the polder country again and further on a narrow bicycle pole over a wood quay. Here you will only encounter cyclists and walkers. Halfway there is pavilion De grote Sniep with watchtower. A beautiful place to get off and see the surroundings from the watchtower. In the pavilion you can enjoy coffee and tea and homemade cake.
The route goes west to follow the banks of the Kromme Mijdrecht winding. At the bicycle bridge we cross to visit the bird paradise de Groene Jonker. Via a separate cycle path in the middle of the meadows we drive towards Zevenhoven.
From Zevenhoven to Korteraar drive over the bottom of a reclaimed land. This polder is meters lower after the surrounding dikes. When we reach the "high dike" we have to pedal hard to get to the top. The high dike is the road over the dike around the low-lying polder. The route sets course for Aarlanderveen. In the village next to the church, a coffee-to-go is possible at: the old courthouse.
The molenviergang of Aarlanderveen is the next attraction, followed by the Meijepad right between the Nieuwkoopse plassen. Along the meijepad is "Strand Zomer" a catering facility that is open during the summer months. Is it closed? Don't worry in the Meije next to the church is café-restaurant de Halve Maan. A favorite café for many hikers, recreational cyclists and cyclists.
The route continues over the hazekade. Left and right it is all polder and who knows, you might see a hare or a stork. When things went badly with the stork, they were helped extra in Zegveld. The route goes past the old stork station where many storks still breed and some also hibernate.
The last steps towards Woerden, see the ferry crossing the grecht and soon after enter through the fortified town of Woerden with, among other things, the castle. There are various catering establishments on the church square. It is 5 minutes to the station and departure point, so you have earned a final snack and drink.
