Gilze owns the centuries-old Valkenberg Estate. Hidden in the forest, lies the country house that belonged to knight Willem van Berchem in the 15th century. Perhaps the Chaamse Bos is the oldest forest in the Kempen. Valkenberg forms almost one whole with the estates, on the territory of Alphen-Chaam, Hondsdonk, Oud-Lugtenburg and Luchtenburg. Together they have an area of about 560 ha and connect to the Strijbeekse Heide. Several streams run through Landgoed Valkenberg and there is a varied flora and fauna.

Discover the beautiful vistas and vistas in the area and the typical farms that are unique in this region. The current system of avenues was built around 1770 and is accessible to hikers. A must is the open avenue de Meeldreef (photo). The avenue is surrounded by giant trees that provide a mighty appearance. On both sides runs a donkey path, which used to be used by the staff. The burial mound is also worth seeing, already empty in the basement. The estate is, except for the surroundings of the mansion, open to the public.
