Did you know the state of Nevada almost had the name "Humboldt", after the famous geographer and scientist Alexander von Humboldt (18th-19th century). It was a Prussian naturalist and explorer. He did research in Central and South America and gave a detailed description of the physical universe. Humboldt was the most important scientific traveler of all time, according to the British naturalist Charles Darwin. At the Constitutional convention of 1861 the name of this state was discussed. The fact that the name Humboldt was discussed shows how popular the man was.
