The Cheyenne River Indian Reservation is linked to the famous movie "The Revenant" featuring Leonardo Di Caprio playing frontiersman Hugh Glass's experiences in 1823. Glass is badly mauled by a grizzly bear and left close to death. In real life Glass' survival journey did not take place in the cold season, nor did it involve tall mountain ranges, but it took place in this area. The real Hugh Glass crawled and stumbled 200 miles (320 km) to Fort Kiowa, South Dakota after being abandoned without supplies or weapons by fellow explorers and fur traders during General Ashley's expedition of 1823.
One of the famous quotes from the movie is "As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight. You keep breathing."
