The Samanids Mausoleum dates from the 9th-10th century. According to medieval sources the Samanids mausoleum was built by emir Ismail (the founder of the Samanid Power) for his father Nasr I. Later it became a family tomb since Ismail and his grandson Nasr II ibn Ahmad were burried here. The mausoleum is almost a perfect cube made of bricks and covered by a dome. All the facades are identical and have pillars at the corners. Following ancient religions the cube symbolizes steadiness, symbol of the earth, and the dome is related to the sky. Their combination represents the unity of the Universe. The bricks which are placed in alternating angels form impressive paterns in the facades and pillars.
