Routes linked to the poet and writer William Wordsworth. He stated that

"A journey on foot is a mind-body integrative activity: the legs move, and the mindwanders. By being forced to focus on quick-passing logistical realities such as steppingover uneven ground, the brain is freed up from having to contemplate backgroundworries, which are both more tedious and less specific, than the ground underfoot. Howmuch did we spend on tallow this month, and how much will be coming in from the publication of my new poem?"

William Wordsworth spent many holidays on walking tours, visiting places famous for the beauty of their landscape. In 1790, he took a walking tour of Europe, during which he toured the Alps extensively, and visited nearby areas of France, Switzerland, and Italy.
