The Castle Groot Poelgeest has probably been build around 1250. It has been owned by the family Van Poelgeest for centuries and has been destroyed and rebuild several times. In 1717 it was definitely abandoned and slowly destroyed for reuse and by the weather. Only one of the entrance towers and the island remain as evidence of the castle.
