Pier Kloeffe or Petrus Decreton (1853 -1939) is said to have been of nobility and came from Picardy in France. During one war or another, his family fled to Belgium and they settled there as fishermen. The sculpture on the beach of De Panne is an enlargement of the 30 cm statue made by painter Louis Van den Eynde from Anderlecht, a friend of Pier.
