Koryfasio or Koryphasion is the hill between the island Sphaceteria and the Bay of Voidokilia. On this hill the Paleokastro (castle) is built. This was also the location of the city of Pylos in ancient times.
It is assumed that the city was much bigger than the surface taken by the current Paleokastro.
Walking around the slopes of the hill, you can still see lot of potsherds and construction relicts giving indications of activity on this hill.
The geographer of the 2nd century AD, Pausanius wrote about this place and he stated that Homer's Pylos was located on Koryphasion.
