The village of Agios Alexandros is named after Agios Alexandros Kondopouliou, the first Patriarch of Constantinople. When he died in 340 AD, he was buried in Lemnos, in the neighbourhood of Hephaistia. His earthly remains were on the island of Lemnos for about 1000 years, until 1308, when Marco Minotto stole them and took them to Venice.
