12 million years ago, magma from deep below the island infiltrated the cracks of the much older schists and marble complex. The magma solidified as granite. Because they infiltrated the cracks, they appear as 'walls' of magma, called dykes. This spot is such an example of a NS oriented dyke of granite (see red bands on the geological map)
