10 km north-east of Charleville-Mézières, NEUFMANIL is home to 1,228 "Néomesniliens", nicknamed "Crayats" (the crayat being a foundry slag)Neufmanil was attached to France in 1769. Evacuated in 1940, the village was badly damaged (the "château" was destroyed in 1941). A village "encircled" by the forest ... The forest is composed of noble species (oak, beech, hornbeam but also birch) and covers about 420 hectares. The commune makes it a point of honour to offer its inhabitants and visitors a clean and flowery living environment, both in summer and winter. With about twenty associations, it is a village rich in activities.
