Starting from Vieux-Thann to Wittelsheim, the mill canal has existed since the Middle Ages but was only built in 1854 and was managed by the millers' union.
In the 19th century, it operated a dozen mills and provided the hydraulic power necessary for the operation of the craft industry: flour mills, oil mills, paper mills... and the textile and mechanical industry of Cernay and Uffholtz (neighboring village 2 km away).
It is the main thread of the tour "On the traces of the past of the Cernay industry - along the factory canal" which plunges you into another era and reveals Cernay, as you never imagined it!
