We noticed in the past that when planning a route, people often do not zoom in enough and thus unknowingly create 'stubbles' .
What are stubbles
Stubbles are unintended stretches of route that enter a road or path for a short distance before the route returns to the actual path to be followed. Most annoyingly, they result in unclear and confusing instructions in the roadbook or turn-by-turn navigation.
In the summer of 2023, our route planner became a lot smarter as we started filtering out such unconscious and unintended turns with a distance of 100 meters and less.
Sometimes necessary
In some cases, however, stubbles do add value. Suppose, for example, you want to turn briefly down a road to visit a certain place or because there is a checkpoint of your event there or something like that. If the distance of that detour was less than 100 meters it was considered a stubble and thus automatically removed. We have now solved that problem too!
The stubble correction has been further refined and now takes into account not only the distance but also the zoom level of the map when you are planning your route. So if you want to include a small detour in your route, zoom in enough while planning and the route planner will accept this small deviation
