Grote Frankenwaldrunde (KC 13)

Route: Kronach, Ruppen, Höfles, Marktrodach, Zeyern, Erlabrück, Steinwiesen, Birnbaum, Intersection Hubertushöhe, Tschirn, Effelter, Lahm, Untergrümpelmühle, Wilhelmsthal, Steinberg, Friesen, Dörfles, Kronach (*)

Route Description: Starting point is the station in Kronach. From the station, proceed straight towards the bridge over the Haßlach river, then turn right onto the Europabrücke, then left onto Pfählangerstraße and left again. Then, turn right onto Rodacher Straße heading out of town until you reach B 173. From here, the cycle path runs to the left of B 173 towards the district of Ruppen. At the traffic lights in Ruppen, cross B 173, then turn left onto the cycle path through Höfles to the rafting village Marktrodach. From here, continue on flat cycle paths through Zeyern to Erlabrück. Behind Erlabrück, take the underpass and follow the Rodach river to Steinwiesen. At the tourism center at the entrance of Steinwiesen, turn left into Leitschtal, which later splits behind the district of Leitsch. The tour then follows a long ascent along the Rössenbach stream up to the Franconian village of Birnbaum. At the northern edge of the village, turn right onto the county road towards Hubertushöhe, passing by the observation tower. At the intersection at Hubertushöhe, the route follows the low-traffic road through the forest to Tschirn. With a magnificent panoramic view over the entire Frankenwald, continue on the cycle path to Effelter and Lahm. In the center of Lahm, the route descends steeply through the forest to Untergrümpelmühle. Along the idyllic Grümpeltal valley, the road leads to the imposing mountain village of Wilhelmsthal. From the village exit, follow the cycle path to Steinberg and continue through Friesen and Dörfles back to Kronach. (*)
