Dorpswijngaard Halte St. Gerlach

In 2019, 750 vines were planted on this plot on the southern slope of the Geul valley. In conjunction with the holiday home in the historic station building from 1903 and the larger vineyard of the Oostwegel Collection located on the other side of the track, this forms a special ensemble. This vineyard is also part of Route des Vins Berg en Terblijt - Houthem St. Gerlach.
This project is an initiative of Halte St. Gerlach and the Wij Houthem - St. Gerlach Foundation and has been made possible in part by the Municipality of Valkenburg, Buitengoed Geul en Maas and LEADER. The village vineyard has become a meeting place where wine lovers and local residents can adopt and care for their 'own' vines; winegrower in miniature!
terroir The roots find their way to the underlying marl layers through a thick layer of loess. The vineyard is located on the south-facing slope of the Geul, adjacent to one of the oldest railway lines in the Netherlands.
Grape varieties and wine types The wine varieties planted in the village vineyard are Johanniter and Sauvignier Gris.
wine process
The planting, maintenance and picking is carried out together with volunteers and the adoptive parents. This is done manually and organically. In the production, there is intensive collaboration with Wijngoed Fromberg, which will produce a beautiful white wine and a sparkling wine.
