The mill was built in 1893 as a grain and bark mill. In 1942, the mill was sold to butcher Pieter de Jong, and shortly after the sale, the mill was completely restored. In the 1970s, the condition of the mill became so poor that it began to pose a danger to the surroundings. An emergency grant was then requested for the restoration. The grant was granted, and millwright Bos from Almkerk was commissioned to restore the mill to working order. After the work was completed in 1975, former miller Jan Janssen Steenberg put the mill back into use on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, open to the public. In 1992, millwright Bos conducted another major restoration, during which the mill was again fitted with two pairs of millstones.
Since then, the mill has been regularly grinding grains into flour for various bakers in the area, although not as intensively as before, it is still the case today. The mill also serves as an instructional mill for the Guild of Volunteer Millers. The 'steam' has also been recently restored and now serves as the workshop of millwright Wilten from Utrecht.
