Bouy-Luxembourg

The charming village of Bouy-Luxembourg lies on the edge of the chalk plateau of dry Champagne, not far from the lush greenery of the Forêt d'Orient. The village owes its name to the de Luxembourg family, whose head, the Duke of Luxembourg, was the high justicier and hunted in the commune, hence the name Bouy-Luxembourg. Martin Beaugrand, the famous 19th-century theologian, was born in Bouy-Luxembourg. The bishop entrusted him with the management of the Ursuline convent in Troyes, which he kept for 25 years, and at the same time entrusted him with the spiritual care of the city's prisons. On his death, the Ursulines had him buried in the nave of their church, under a marble tomb with an inscription engraved by Edmond Herluison de Troyes, recounting all the virtues of the saint and learned theologian. Cultural heritage: Saint-Loup church, built in the 18th century but dating back to the 16th century. Listed as a "Monument Historique", it comprises 3 rectangular naves, with a 3-sided apse and equilateral aisles on the lower sides, a layout reminiscent of the churches in Montreuil and Montiéramey.
